This is a 49-minute module. It covers design of wood member subject to bending loads.
The design for bending loads involves evaluation of the demand-capacity relationship of the failure modes associated with strength limit states: flexure and shear, and serviceability limit states: bearing (compression perpendicular to grain) and deflections. Both ASD and LRFD design methodologies based on 2005 NDS are explored.
